Army Chief To Visit Suratgarh

Suratgarh(Rajasthan),  General Dalbir Singh, Chief of the Army Staff shall be visiting Suratgarh on 25 February 2015.  The Chief of the Army Staff on behalf of the President of India, will present the Standard to 44 Armoured Regiment, a frontline Armoured Regiment of the Indian Army, presently operating along the western borders.  A mounted parade with tanks will be one of the significant events of this historic occasion at Suratgarh Military Station.
            44 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1981. The regiment epitomes the virtues of character, courage and valour.  It has imbibed the core military values of honour, selflessness and sacrifice.  The regiment has also participated in a large number of operations including Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak II and Operation Parakram.  It has contributed a large numbers of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and other ranks to serve with the Rashtriya Rifle and Assam Rifle units deployed in the counter insurgency grid.  In it’s current location, apart from focusing on operational readiness, it has been working towards the welfare of ex-servicemen, veer naris, war widows and spreading awareness about the strength of the Indian Army among the civil populace of the region.
            For its over about three decades of meritorious and distinguished service to the Nation, the Regiment will be bestowed with the President’s Standard by the Chief of the Army Staff.  The function is scheduled to be conducted on 25 February 2015 at Suratgarh Military Station.  The event will be witnessed by a host of military and civil dignitaries.  To commemorate this historic event, the Chief of the Army Staff will also release a Special Day Cover.
