CM Meets Union Home Minister Request for simplified and fast processing for grant of citizenship to Hindu migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh

Jaipur,  The Chief Minister Smt. Vasundhara Raje met the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh on Thursday to request him for simplification and fast processing of the pending cases for grant of citizenship rights to Hindus who got migrated to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan or Bangladesh.

Smt. Raje told the Union Minister that applications of several such migrants residing in different districts of Rajasthan were pending. It is notable that the Union Minister has already authorized the District Magistrates Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer to grant of permanent resident and citizenship rights to such migrants. For rest of the districts, the state Home Secretary has been authorized. These rights are limited for the period extending up to two years since the notification to this effect was published.

The Chief Minister suggested for extension of this time window for one more year. Also, she said that District Magistrates of Udaipur, Pali, Jalore, Alwar and Barmer should also be given the above-said authority for grant of rights.

Smt. Raje further suggested that the concerned District Magistrates should also be given the authority for extension of the long-term Visa beyond 5 years for those migrants who were willing to have permanent citizenship of the country. Presently, the State Government was having this authority of Visa term extension. She said that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) report from the Ministry of Home Affairs before grant of citizenship was very timing consuming. For this, she said that as per the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in August 2017, a copy of the IB report should be directly forwarded to the District Magistrates.

The CM further asked for fast processing of the long-term Visa issued for the first-time by the Ministry of Home Affairs. On this, the Union Home Minister promised the Chief Minister that the ministry would positively consider the citizenship related issues of the Hindu migrants and take decisions at the earliest.
