Kolkata: The Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), a tri-service organization that oversees and assists retiring servicemen adopt a second career has added few new courses this year with higher potential of employability including a 24-week management programme for officers every month  giving them wider choice, Maj Gen Amrik Singh, Director General (Resettlement) said briefing senior army officials here in Kolkata today. 

"It has been the endeavour of DGR to select the best training courses which commensurate to the demand of growing corporate sector," he said. Maj Gen Singh is here in West Bengal on a visit to review the training courses and other resettlement plans under DRZ, Kolkata. 

Maj Gen Singh also interacted with nearly 50 armed forces personnel who are on the verge of their retirement and are currently undergoing professional training courses in areas such as mobile repairing, IT-enabled services and other entrepreneurial courses in the city. 

"Based on the interface with the industry, demands of Service HQs, student feedback, DRZs and local inspecting units, we have taken a fresh look at our resettlement training programme and reviewed them to make it more environment and user-friendly," Gen Singh said in his efforts to spread awareness on the various initiatives so that vacancies tied up do not go unfilled. 

Approximately 60,000 service personnel retire every year at a comparatively young age. Majority of the retiring personnel are at an age where they have numerous unfinished domestic responsibilities necessitating a second career occupation.
