Islamabad, A Pakistani court has issued fresh
notices to prominent politicians including President Asif Ali Zardari,
Tehrik-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan and former premier Nawaz Sharif to disclose
their assets, including those in foreign countries.
The Lahore High Court issued the notices yesterday in response
to a petition filed by lawyer Javed Iqbal Jaffrey. In his petition, Jaffrey
asked the court to direct Zardari, Sharif, Khan, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz
Sharif,former President Pervez Musharraf, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain,
Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi,former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani,
Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik
and some others to disclose their assets.
Jaffray also asked the court to direct the respondents to bring
back their foreign assets and to spend them for the welfare of Pakistan.
Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the Lahore High Court issued notices to the
respondents yesterday and asked them to respond by April 9.Jaffery alleged
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had transferred three billion dollars mostly to
Britain, where his two sons had acquired property.He alleged former premier
Gilani had spent about Rs 500 million from public funds on his houses in Multan
and Lahore. He claimed Pakistan had become a failed state due to the corrupt
practices and misconduct of political leaders.
