New Delhi,India and Myanmar
share close and friendly relations, which are further strengthened by high
level exchanges between the two countries. Official talks with Myanmar over the
past months include meeting of the Prime Minister with Myanmar President Thein
Sein on the margins of the BIMSTEC Summit in March 2014 at Nay Pyi Taw,
Myanmar; the Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting held in January 2014 at
Kalay, Myanmar; and Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in July 2013 at Nay Pyi
Taw.
Border management is an important aspect of India-Myanmar engagement. The need for enhanced cooperation between the two sides for securing peace, security and stability in the border areas has been underlined at the highest levels by both the countries. In this regard, India and Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Border Cooperation on May 8, 2014, which aims to enhance cooperation between the two security agencies in ensuring peace, stability and security along the long international land and maritime border between the two countries.
