Udhampur,General Bikram Singh, Chief of Army
Staff accompanied by Mrs Bubbles Singh, President Central Army Wives Welfare
Association (AWWA) is on a farewell visit to formations of Northern Command and
arrived at Udhampur on 12 Jul. Earlier in the day he had visited Srinagar based
HQ 15 Corps, where he addressed and interacted with the troops. He also called
on the Chief Minister and the Governor of J&K.
At Udhampur, Gen Bikram Singh paid homage to the martyrs at Dhruva War
Memorial. He addressed all ranks and was accorded a warm farewell by troops of
HQ Northern Command. During his address, he complimented all officers and men
for their exemplary sense of duty, people friendly approach during counter
terrorist operations, extending humanitarian assistance to Awaam and also in
resolutely guarding the Northern frontiers. He stressed upon the rich military
traditions, ethos and the value systems and the importance of remaining
committed and focused to discharge our onerous responsibilities, while catering
for all contingencies.
Mrs Bubbles Singh felicitated 21 Veer Naris in a ceremony organised at Udhampur. “Young Achievers” award for outstanding achievement in academics and “AWWA Achievers” award for exemplary contribution to AWWA activities were also awarded in presence of large gathering of wives of all ranks of Dhurva command during the function. Gen Bikram Singh retires from the Army on 31 Jul 14.
