New Delhi,The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has
informed that the proposal regarding implementation of clause 8 of the
Memorandum of Settlement signed with Bodo group relating to granting of
Scheduled Tribes (ST) (Hills) status to Bodo Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong and
N.C. Hills Autonomous Councils Area was taken up with the National Commission
for Scheduled Tribes (NCST). The said proposal was not supported by the NCST in
its original form. The State Government has been requested to provide more
details.
An Expert Committee has been set up vide Ministry of Home Affairs Order dated
26th February, 2014 under the chairmanship of Shri G.K. Pillai, former Union
Home Secretary (Retired IAS) to study/examine the demand of Bodoland State. The
Committee will consult all sections of the society on the viability of the
creation of a separate State of Bodoland. The Committee has resumed its
functioning after the election process is over and would submit its report in
due course. Shri Kiren Rijiju MoS (Home) gave this information in Rajya Sabha
today in a written reply to a question by Shri Biswajit Daimary.
