imposing memorial in the memory of CQMH Abdul Hamid, PVC of 4 GRENADIERS, hero
of battle of Khem Karan , Assal Uttar was inaugurated at Jodhpur Military
Station on 21 Sep 2015 by the son of the great war hero on account of Golden
Jubilee Celebrations of Indo-Pak War of 1965.The simple yet inspiring ceremony
was attended by Lt General Bobby Mathews, GOC Konark Corps and senior serving
and retired dignitaries.

Veer Abdul Hamid was born on 01 Jul 1933 and joined the Indian Army at the age
of 20 years in 4 GRENADIERS. During the Indo Pak 1965 War on 10 Sep 1965 at
0800h Pakistan Army launched an attack in the Khem Karan Sector, South of
Amritsar which was being defended by 4 GRENADIERS. CQMH Abdul Hamid was the
commander of a 106 mm RCL Jeep mounted anti-tank gun. On seeing the approaching
enemy Patton Tanks he swiftly engaged the leading tanks and destroyed two of
them. Under intense counter enemy tank
fire he quickly redeployed his Jeep to a new tactical position and again
engaged the enemy tanks destroying two more Patton tanks. Under an intense fusillade of enemy
artillery, tanks and machine guns fire this brave son of India stood his
ground and died fighting in an unequal fight in the highest traditions of the
Indian Army. For his incredible valour
and bravery he was awarded the highest gallantry award in the face of enemy
‘The Param Veer Chakra’.
The
year 2015 is being celebrated as the Golden Jubilee year of victory of the 1965 Indo-Pak
war.Jodhpur Military Station has
organised various events to commemorate the valour and selfless service of our
unforgettable war heroes.
