CAPACITY BUILDING EXERCISE

ANNUAL WORKSHOP ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT AT PHALODI
 
Jodhpur,Air force station Phalodi under the aegis of South Western Air Command organized Annual Workshop on Disaster Management for familiarization of State Government Officials of Rajasthan.  This training was imparted to the helicopter crew and the state government officials to tackle natural calamities like floods, earthquake and other natural disasters.  This training would help them in rescue of human lives and in air dropping of food and water to affected people.  The State Civil Disaster Management Team was briefed about the capabilities and limitation of the aircraft in this type of situation specially during flood relief operations.

Air Force Station Phalodi actively participated in Flood Relief Operations in Uttarakhand rescuing 4457 passengers and transporting 220 tons of relief materials to places totally inaccessible by road.  The station undertook fire fighting operations in Tirupati to extinguish massive forest fire which was spreading towards Tirupati temple, thus preventing loss of precious wild lives and forest cover.  In all 69,000 liters of waters was sprayed on fire to extinguish it.

Air Force Station Phalodi is currently equipped with modern helicopters which are state of the art and has enhanced the flood relief/disaster management capacity of Indian Air Force in handling disaster relief operations effectively in Rajasthan and Gujarat.
