Kolkata,A symposium on
'Living with Schizophrenia' on the occasion of "World Mental Health
Day" being observed on October 10, was held at Command Hospital Eastern
Command, here today.
Maj Gen
Deepak Kalra, Hospital Commandant was chief guest at the session highlighting
the World Health Organization
theme. The session was attended by doctors, nursing officers and trainee nurses
at the hospital.
Schizophrenia is a diagnosis given
to some people who have severely disrupted beliefs and experiences. During
an episode of schizophrenia, a person's understanding and interpretation of the
outside world is disrupted.
According to WHO estimates, at
least 26 million people are living with schizophrenia worldwide, and many more
are indirectly affected by it.
A poster exhibition on the stigma attached to Schizophrenia
was prepared by the nursing students of the College of Nursing. Gen Kalra gave
away prizes to the winning posters.
