Jaipur, A polo match between Polo Teams of
Royal Artillery of UK and Indian Army Artillery was played at 61 CAV ALARY Polo
Grounds at Military Station Jaipur to commemorate 300 years of Royal
Artillery.
The match was attended by all military officers and ladies of Jaipur
Station. Lt Gen Arun Kumar Sahni, Army Commander, South Western
Command, himself an outstanding polo player,led the Indian Artillery Team while
the British team was led by Brig MAL
Milligan. The British team was represented by six officers, five from
Royal Artillery including a lady officer and an officer from Kings Royal
Hussars.
The match
was very interesting and was played in a most competitive spirit. The match
ended in a draw with both sides scoring 4 goals each.
The Royal Artillery and the Indian Artillery have a rich shared history, with
over 22 Batteries in the British Royal artillery having been raised in India as
part of the Bombay, Bengal and Madras Artillery.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen AK Sahni complimented the British Team on
their forth coming 300th anniversary. He also recounted
various training and operational exchanges between the two armies and hoped
that this match will go a long way in establishing closer ties between UK and
Indian Armies, both in sports as well as professional arena.
