Jaipur, The Second Summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation
(FIPIC) will be hosted in Jaipur
on Friday. The Heads of State and Government and senior officials from all the
14 Pacific Island countries will be participating in
the summit.
The first FIPIC
summit was held in Suva, Fiji in November 2014 when the Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi was there on a bilateral visit. FIPIC was formed at that time
with India and 14 Pacific Island countries as the members. These countries
include Fiji, Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru,
Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and
Vanuatu.
The Heads of
State and Government and senior officials from all the 14 Pacific Island countries will be participating in the summit. After reaching Jaipur on Friday the delegation will go for
sightseeing in Amer Fort and the Indian Council for World Affairs will organise
an interactive session and a lunch. The Minister of State for External Affairs
Gen. V.K. Singh will be present at that event.
The Second FIPIC
summit will be held in the evening followed by a banquet hosted by the Prime
Minister in honour of Heads of State and Government and all the delegation
members from the Pacific Islands They would return to Delhi on 22nd August 2015.
In the Second FIPIC Summit,India proposes to
share its experience and expertise in renewable energy, particularly the solar
sector which is of particular importance for the sustainable development of
Island countries .
One of the main
objectives of this summit is to promote India’s trade and investment with these countries . It would like to enhance trade and investment
relations in the economic sectors of interest to both India and these
countries, and specifically these are like fishing, mining, oil and natural
gas, information technology, health, marine resources, agriculture, coconut,
coir etc. It would also like to share the technological
advances and expertise that country has achieved in these and other economic
sectors, and to be a trusted friend and partner with them in their journey of
securing inclusive growth and sustainable development.
