Jodhpur, The 49th Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day was
celebrated at Konark Auditorium, Jodhpur Military Station today. The
celebrations started with lighting of lamp by Mrs Geeta Katoch, Zonal President
Konark AWWA. The celebrations were attended by approximately 1000
families of Army personnel.
AWWA,
established with an aim of fostering a ‘Feeling of Belonging’, ‘Caring’ and
‘Social Empowerment’ amongst wives of Army Personnel who are drawn from largely
rural background, has contributed immensely towards the welfare and empowerment
of wives of serving and retired soldiers and their kin, thereby making them
self-reliant, so that soldiers can perform their duties without worrying about
their families. Therefore, it has carved a niche for itself in diverse
fields with lasting impact on the lives of Army family. In March 2009,
AWWA was declared as non-governmental organization which assists in the welfare
of Army families. With commitment and dedicated efforts towards ‘Asha’,
‘Vishwas’ and ‘Aastha’ its endeavours have seen hopes and aspirations of
military families being met substantially. AWWA works towards making the
Army a happy family. On this account it facilitates resolving of marital
problems of army personnel and extends a helping hand to the ‘Veer Naris’, when
in need. This organization is also working towards betterment of
‘Generation Next’ by providing quality education and coaching facilities for
wards of serving and retired Army personnel.
A number of
activities were organized in Military Station Jodhpur, to commemorate the AWWA
Day. In the run up to the event ‘Tree Plantation’, ‘Visit to Veer Naris’,
‘Medical Camp’ for health check of ladies and children, ‘Cleanliness Drive’ etc
were organized. All these activities culminated with the main event held
at Konark Auditorium today, in which the AWWA message was read out. This
was followed by distribution of ‘Cash Incentive to Meritorious Students’ and
‘Certificate of Appreciation’ to ladies who excelled in AWWA activities by Konark AWWA.
