the night of 20 August 14, a joint mobile vehicle check post laid
by Army troops from Bandipur and JKP recovered a
huge quantity of arms and
ammunition from a Maruti 800 car. At around 1030 p.m. the Maruti 800 car, while approaching the vehicle check post,
stopped around 300
meters short of the check post near Fazalpura Bridge. The driver initially attempted to reverse the vehicle but panicked when could not do so. The driver then got out of the car and ran away. Troops of the joint vehicle check post chased him but he managed to escape taking advantage of the pitch darkness. The Maruti 800 car was immediately cordoned and checked. The SP Police, Bandipura also reached the site on receiving the information. The search of the Maruti car resulted in the recovery of four AK-47, three AK-56, five Chinese Pistols, one UBGL, fifteen AK-47 magazines, five pistol magazines, 35 rounds of AK 47, 13 rounds of Chinese pistol, 74 UBGL grenades, 13 Chinese grenades and 18 other grenades. The search operation to apprehend the driver is still in progress.
