Chief Minister Meets Union Finance Minister
Jaipur, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Smt.
Vasundhara Raje has sought central government's additional funds to improve
upon the economic status of the power companies of Rajasthan and to support
several other public welfare projects including Bhamashah Scheme.
In this regard Smt. Raje
held a meeting with the Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitely in New Delhi
on Tuesday. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Energy Piyush Goyal was also present during this. She discussed various issues
concerning the power companies in the state in detail and informed that total
debit of these companies have crossed Rs. 77,543 crore due to financial
mismanagement of the preceding state government.
The CM said that during
her previous tenure the T&D losses of electricity were reduced from 41% to
27%, which shot up again during the past government. Also, during past five
year, charges collection remained below the national average.
Smt. Raje said that the
state government was making all efforts to increase power generation through
various projects along with improvement in transmission and distribution to
reduce losses and curb thefts of power. "But, the central government's
support was immensely required for the power companies to start some ambitious
projects and to get rid of the deficit through various reforms," she
added.
In this meeting, ahead
the Union Budget 2015, the CM apprised the Finance Minister about the fiscal
issues of her state, demanded maximum funds for Rajasthan and gave several
valuable suggestions.
Meeting To Yield Positive: Shri Goyal
After the meeting, the
Union Minister of State for Energy Shri Piyush Goyal said that the efforts of
CM Smt. Raje to reform power sector in Rajasthan would yield as per the Prime
Minister's resolve to provide 24-hours electricity all over the country. He
hoped for the positive outcomes of the CM meetings with himself and the Finance
Minister Shri Jaitely.
Shri Goyal noted that
severe financial and power sector mismanagement by the previous state
government led to the state power companies facing deficit summed-up to Rs
55,000 crore during past five years. It was very unfortunate, he said. During
the last financial year as well the power Discoms suffered losses worth Rs.
12,000 to 15,000 crore. He assured that the centre would extend all possible
support to the state government in regard to this.

Shri Rajiv Mehrishi, Rajasthan Chief Secretary Shri CS Rajan, Principal
Secretary Finance Shri PS Mehra, Energy Secretary Shri Sanjay Malhotra and
other senior officials were present in the meeting.
